We have launched our perimeters maths resources, specifically designed and aligned to the KS2 Year 4 maths curriculum.
Pupils are introduced to perimeters by fencing in a space to hold animals. As they outline animal pens with fencing, pupils develop a conceptual understanding of the equations that can be used to find perimeter. They then use what they’ve learned to create one or more rectangular pens with a given perimeter.
1. Create Perimeters: Understand how to make rectangles with a given perimeter and that different shapes can have the same perimeter. A suggested method is to make the width and length add up to half of the perimeter.
2. Fancy Fencing: Practice creating rectangles with a given perimeter and different shapes with the same perimeter.
