New – Partition Quarters for 1st Graders

Flora is making costumes! She needs help preparing the fabric. Can you help her cut the pieces of cloth into quarters?

Students already know how to make halves. They will see that when they slice a half in half, they make quarters.   As they partition circles and rectangles into 4 equal shares, they will understand a quarter as 1 of 4 equal parts.
Your learners will love slicing the shapes! As they slice the pieces, they’ll notice that creating more equal shares creates even smaller shares. This creates a strong foundation for learning fractions later.
