New – Partition Quarters for 1st GradersApril 1, 2016
Learners will see that when they slice a half in half, they make quarters. As they partition circles and rectangles into 4 equal shares, they will understand a quarter as 1 of 4 equal parts.
In Patterns, learners generate a number pattern that follows a given addition or subtraction rule. They will develop their reasoning and problem solving skills by figuring out the rule for an incomplete pattern and then solving it.
Students use what they have learned about creating equivalent fractions to add fractions with different denominators. They learn that in order to add fractions with unlike denominators, they first make equivalent fractions with the same denominators.
In just under 2 weeks time, our Learning Producer will be travelling to Tanzania, Africa with members of the Cheltenham Gospel Choir. The purpose of the trip is to visit the two charities that the choir supports, the Amani Children’s Home and New Life Band. Today we had a charity bake-off to raise money for them both and raised over £60!
